Spoken Word Gig!

Updi nyo ko sa isa ka Spoken Word event sa November 6 sa Crammers Gen Luna. Spoken Word as in Henry Rollins, Leonard Cohen, Rage Against the Machine, Radioactive Sago Project, Velvet Underground, Charles Bukowsky, Michael McClure, Bauhaus... Gets?

You've probably heard of this gig before. The last time it happened here was like 5 years ago. I've been around and I share your feelings: the Iloilo scene is like... duh?.. do I have my briefs on?. I thought about this gig about a month back, but my homeboy chickened out--he left me high and dry... You know how it feels, dontcha?

Bring in your stuff guitars and all, but please bring in poems and stories too. Kon indi kamo magbasa, pabasa nyo sa iban, eh. I'm a wordsmith, so I'll take care of writing and writers. I'm sure my ara da nga nagasulat sa inyo. Please help me spread the word around.

I'm working on the details, but for now let me tell you the venue has been nailed--yup, it's gonna be at crammers, around 7 PM (yeah, i know, too early--ideal time should be 12, but by then the city will have been in deep sleep).

if you can come by at crammers today past 6 PM, we can chew the fat with the owner. she's in town and we'll meet later. how that's for starters?

In the tradition of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, you are all invited to come for a Spoken Word gig at Crammers on General Luna Street, November 6 at 6 PM. The legendary author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest won’t be there, but we’ll have some of Iloilo’s shoo-in scenesters present--poets, fictionists, artists, musicians, and people on the fringe.

This gig launches a series of spoken word performances which will culminate with an online site for New Iloilo Writing.

S' up, peeps? Thus far, around 12 people have confirmed oral ( as in speaking, heheh) participation in the gig. For dramatic reasons I can't post their names here, but I think one or two of them may have responded to my invitation through this site: Thanks to the forum moderators!!!! You should be there, too, bros!


Two guitarists from a local band are tagging along with me, but I wish we had more. Anyone out there who does bongos? Or maybe a beat box master? I got a homeboy from Florida who can rap but his repertoire consists mainly of Vanilla Ice, so I told him to read up on A Tribe Called Quest and KRS. I'd love it if somebody out there can do that. I'm not asking too much, ok. Sige na gani... Death Sentence or Sunvalley Crew, solve na ko. Do we have a turntable wiz here? You know, DJing--toasting, sampling, mixing, etc. You see, medyo cramped kita sa Crammers (the space inside's not too wide), so perfect gid tani para sa sonic background.

Around three guys from Iloilo bloggers are joining, too. May mga familiar faces from Iloilo writing circles, but don;t worry friendly man na sila. In fact gusto gid nila kamo ma meet.

Good one, bro. Either one will do. I'm hoping your posse will be free on that day coz I mean this gig to be a coming out blitz for all Ilonggo creatives. Ive had a word with the owner, and she's all out for anything artsy-fartsy.

I'd appreciate it if you can prepare a mix or set mean enough to put these third-rate radio DJs out of work... I'm waiting for your confirmation over my email ad (see previous posts).
