...hmmm... sakin lang, there has to be a venue to showcase various facets of jazz... a lot of kids/people who think they know 'jazz', know only a side of jazz na to others, "pang-tigulang kuno", but is just a facet... case in point- there's a jazz genre called 'jazz-funk', w/c is a combo of jazz licks/approaches in sync w/ funk grooves...now any true musician worth his salt will know that when you play "funk", u gota have a solid groove, dancy/funky vibe, solid backbeats... the "jazzy stuff" can be layered thru keyboards and/or guitars... AND, u gota know HOW TO PLAY in every sense... try listening to the likes of Tower of Power, Incognito/BrandNewHeavies and you'd know wat i'm talkng abt... rock's cool,but mejo 1 sided on one end... w/ jazz, u have a myriad of musical sensitivities one can explore... plus, one will be driven to be good in his/her craft, coz let's face it- anyone CAN PLAY LOUD, but can u play w/ relevance to the minute sensitivities of various musical pieces/tunes? one's gota have technical expertise, taste, as well as the creativity to flow w/ the vibe... its a matter of being open... on one end, this is when a musician too, finds his niche...

w/ Jazz, one can mix it in w/ pop, rock, latin, soul, funk... its a matter of being creative... again check out Sting... for me, if you're supposedly a "good musician" or at d' least a "serious lover of music", it would be close to impossible for one to just ignore how Sting transformed Jazz into something powerful, fusing it w/ his own brand of Rock/Ska influence, making him avante garde and yes- a "thinking man's musician"...

GOOd point soulguru.... we nid a venue to watch jazz musician play... or tani daw jazzfest bla nga bsan once a month my gathering man sa mga jazzers diri kg jam hangang sawa...hehehe thanx sa gamay nga lecture soulG..yAP JAZZ can be express in diffrent form...amo na nami pamatian kn gina aply bla ang jazz sa mga funk,rnb,rock etc.. dw kanami man bla pamatian aw.. o mga licks bla..mga odd fill ins....tapos mga time signature bla kisa nga ka chalenging kaayo..hehehe thanx again soulG..

sa tanan nga mahilig mg jam jazz,blues,funk(indi lng heavy metal ky basi kigan kmi ka owner) were invitin you sa gig namon every thurs sa tjuana pwede to ka pautwas mg 2nd set kmi drummer,guitarist,bassist,cnger sadyahon ta ni tanan welcome a pisa man o palupad he!he!our gig starts at 9-12pm kitakits....

one word for Drumtraveler's band- IMPRESSIVE... nahuya nko mag-jam coz todo hataw na momentum ng grupo, hehehe... next time for sure... w/ what i saw, i can bravely say w/ all candor, that iloilo has one of the primo bands it can be proud of, not afraid to play the 'serious, thinking man's music'... luv ur chops, bro... hataw ang rendition nila of Al Jarreau's spain... and to think na i just thought of passing by... for other musicians who'd wna learn some stuff, or sink into the rhythm of solid grooves and fantastic musicianship, they're the band to see...

...as it is, i dnt have to go to Bacolod or Cebu to see gr8 players of jazz, R&B, fusion, etc...- ari man sila... more power to your group, dude... ..will jam w/ you next time for sure, hahaha... tho kalawang nko sgurado...

mga jazzer I don't know kay bati ko sa mga storya2x sang una kuno ang jazz kag rock grabe sa iloilo. like may ara kuno nga event nga ang mga jazzer kag rockers na seperate between not really nga conflict but for labeling lang siguro didto nag ululupdanay sila. daw sadya gani. na appreciate ko lang ang jazz kun na fuse sa different kind of music. like rock diba nag halin man ina sa blues kag jazz? muna daw lain naman nga genre. i really don't know ha? pero daw muna man bati ko sa isa ka musikiro na friend.

Grabe man sila gyapon till now....
Mu lang gane sa balay na sila laban ga pautwas..........
Hindi ka man maka all out Jazz sa tulukaran diri kay la man bar na maka cater sa sina nga kind of genre esp... kung pure Jazz.........

When you talk about jazz diri sa iloilo, i would always go back to that time where gin invite kami ni kawayan strat sa bday party nya sa iya balay...

highschool pa lang kami sadto and ang mga tawo nga ara dito were the whose who of the local scene...

for hours, pamati lng kmi sng jam nila... cge lng binuslanay sa kun cno ang ma tukar.... it was like a freakin "musical orgy"... LOL

may nkita ko sang una sa cpu.. si brod ithink ang ngalan.. studyante to siya ni nikky rojas.. d ko sure.. pu iya to style daw jazz fusion.. galing way ko idea kn ga tukar pa siya.. migohay sila ni meeko mendoza.. siya to tudlo sakon basic na blues.. nami tni may jazz bar man ta da.. or the like lang.. like sa bacolod may isa to ka bar na gamay lang.. daw saguijo pu dako2 sa, aircon kag daw ka formal.. laban dayun jazz kg somehow jazz influenced music gna pa play to.. nga bskan pa free jam ya pwd.. nd na knanglan mag byad ang ma jam kag free entrance man.. mas nami pa gani ang crowd sa jazz.. wala sunoy.. puro professionals or educated ga lantaw although may ara man nga ga tripping lang gd jazz bskan OOSY.. galing kay kulba gd sila mg invest para da kay bsi d guro magclick.. sang una may ara pa ko to kita daw free drum workshop/clinic sa cicada.. ang daw underground na bar sa colegio de san jose dapit.. si francisco pa to nga drummer.. bskan didto nlng tni.. nyahaha ok gd ang place.. hope may ara na ta da someday and meet up.. share ideas..
