I think this one is closer to the heart of the Ilonggos right now....

Are you in favor of the Caol plant proposal for the city? why or why not?...

I repeat the disclaimer: [hehehe].... the opinions here are of the individual users and not of the forum as a whole...

yes to coal-fired poweplant

sa nabal an ko lng, it will generate electricity half the price compare sa electric cooperatives. dako gd nga tipid!
hopefully ma minimize ang brownouts.
kun patindogon nila, maka generate cla electricity sa areas nga waay kuryente.

sa mga responsible for building the coal-fired powerplant, tne adopt nila ang clean technology kg ensure ang low pollution

well am not really pro coal but so far its the most logical solution to our current predicament.. we want to move forward galeng circumstances say nga we need more power.. we are loosing a lot of investments diri kay inde natun ma sustain ang power supply

if Iloilo had alternative resources to produce energy then I'd say invest on that one.. galeng wala.. inde man stable ang wind ta di.. same with tidal current.. wla man ta geothermal.. same w/ hydroelectric sources.. if solar power kita.. it would prove too costly na gid... kag we need a significant area para sa power cells nga enough to supply power for the next 20 yrs..

my twin sister is a chemical engr.. she actually a environmental engr na gani subong .. consultant .. she conducts environmental complaince studies on proposed factories and industry related infrastructure.. I know nga may mga process man nga gin consider bag-o kita mag build sang isa ka structure pareho sina

may environmental impact analysis na sya kag may mga measure na sya to mitigate effects to the surroundings.. gina integrate na sa plans and design sang structure.. any civil/ chem engr here would agree on that..

so for sure inde man nila ina maubra kung wla na sya considerations on the impact sa surroundings nya..

well problem lang natun is corrupt sang system ta kag basi substandard bala ang ubrahon nila para maka kupit cla sa budget.. then that would be a problem.. kay if inde na sya up to specs.. then delikado na..

what we need to do is be actively vigilant nga if they did build such a structure dapat complied and up to specs gid..

Since early 2000, investors have been brushing aside Iloilo as a prospective business hub because of our high power rates and unreliable energy supply. A coal fired power plant will definetly help improve the marketability of Iloilo in the eyes of investors.

The more investor the city can attract, the more jobs it will create for fellow ilonggos.

So why am i against the coal fired power plant? Its because i dont believe our local government ( current and future ones ) can live up to its word and take care of the emission problems a coal fired plant can create. I know a few of the sharks waiting for their turn to become top honcho of the city. And damn i feel sorry for us.

A friend of mine told me that studies have been made on how to control the harmful emission a plant as such can create. Good for the city government then for trying to minimize the environmental impact! But then again, how long can they keep it up? If Treņas is making sure that the plant will emit less toxins in the air now, will the next mayor also do so? You see in politics there is such a thing as, "Its not my project, why would i bother with it?". Are you willing to take that gamble boys and girls?

just like what the other peeps said it will definitely create bigger opportunities for us all when it comes to business and all... big problem gid man sg city ta ang lack of power supply for bigger and brighter opportunities para sa tanan...hehehe...

siguro we just need to give our trust sa mga mapadalagan sang powerplant as of now and see what they can do about it...

if we have alternative ways sure muna ang gamiton. but if wala we have to deal with the power plant. and galing basi close minded lang ta bala na or our knowledge is not that enough to understand the pros and cons of coal fired power plants.

question lang..if coal fired power plant we think is the only way to sustain energy diri and everybody will be against it din ta ma kwa kuryente?. and if we have other ways aside sang coal plant, din ta makwa kwarta? coz i think the government knows whats best for our province, wala lang guid ta salig sa ila...

~woot

mejo ga-agree ko kay batabatuta.. yeah, we may have other alternatives but are those alternatives feasible sa banwa ta??? and if ever may ara gid man, who's willing to pursue it??? kung may nabal-an kamu, ibato niyo eh!

kag regarding sa wala ta salig sa government ta, may ara man guro eh galing we can't easily convince ourself to trust them kay daw halos tanan sa ila subong, although bal-an nila kung ano ang dapat para sa aton, indi gid giyapon masaligan! i'm sure laban sa ila may gina una nga ginapanumdum antis sa aton nga mga tao.

~~~opinion lang~~~
yesh there is no such thing as clean coal.. but there are already measures to mitigate such.. we can control and minimize the negative aspects.. we have the capability on that.. as what some of the guys said here already, the problem is sustainability of managing such...
mu na gani may environmental complaince certificate kita nga gina follow everytime we construct an infastructure.. every freaking building we have here is subjected to a standard in which gina consider ang effects nya sa surroundings nya.. wala kita ga pa ubra building nga spur of the moment lang.. we have building codes and such.. on infastructures such as these, mas grabe pa gid na gani ang mga standards.. on an industrial scale mas ma uti gid na ya.. inde lang na ya environmental impact on air, water, soil, flora and fauna.. pati sa social impact, psychological impact of the people living near such area of such structure gina consider ina sa equation..
I should know, my twin sister is a licensed chemical engineer specializing on environmental impact studies.. she has license also from DENR.. consultant sya for GeoSpheres Inc. .. the same company that actually conducted an environmental impact analysis on the proposed coal fire power plant sites like in Banate.. majority of the people who took part in such environmental studies were engineers nga products sang CPU.. ironically it was CPU man nga nag opposed sina...
tanan man may catch in a sense.. if you want this, you have to consider this and that.. in any aspect may positive and negative nga side.. the idea is, are we willing to take risks...
i always would say nga everybody has a legitimate reason why pro and con.. but mu na problem ya eh.. anu gid man bala.. kung inde.. teh inde na lang eh.. kung pwede man lang.. ngaa inde gid ya bi pwede?
mas grabe pa gani ang waste nga gina generate sang fastfoods like Jollibee and Mcdonalds on styrofore dumped at the dumpsite than the waste a PROPERLY MANAGED coal fire power plant
I assure you any solution they will throw at this problem there will be issues... mu na ya nature sang pinoy.. sometimes we are too ignorant to consider and we seldom read the fine prints in between the lines.. nature sang politics, culture and how fucked up our society is...
in the end.. it will be just about corrupt politics and kung sin-o maka ginansya sang dako...
OT: @vansen - are you running for president???..hahha
OnT: i am just just an ordinary citizen and no knowledge on those things. ang bal an ko lang we need something to make our lives better. the fuckin problem is we always think there are always political agendas behind every project and proposal. and because of that mindset everything that the government is proposing even for the benefit of the community is always scrutinized by the people asta malimtan kag indi madayon...daw cycle lang na mo...
government proposal (coal power plant) ->>> indi gusto sang mga tawo kay damo epekto ->>> madugang brown out or mangimol ta kay wala investors ->>>reklamo mga tawo ->>>government proposal ->>other alernatives (galing mahal or indi pwede) ->>>reklamo tawo ->>> mangimol ->>reklamo tawo ->>government proposal
wala ta na contento...in the first place, we are a poor country, we need to start from he bottom guid. indi na pwede nga may mga filters na bwas nga kamahal mahal sa taga poste for clean air ah like sa brazil or mexico bala mo.
amo na nga ga buluang na lng mga politicians kay sa guina ubra ta.ahahahha.
OT: take for example ang airport...sang wala pa nahuman daw damo na scandal and issues..teh pagkakita ta galupad eroplano ngaa wala man may naga reklamo haw???
